The Outlier is CJ Nelson’s favourite mid length fun board; a hull shaped single fin inspired by early displacement hulls. We are very excited to bring you the Outlier. In our opinion (and I think CJ nelson would probably agree) the Outlier is the most versatile, easy to ride board, in the CJ Nelson range. If you normally ride a longboard or shortboard, and don’t have a mid length in your quiver you are missing out. If you already surf a mid length surfboard, and don’t have an Outlier in your quiver, you are also missing out. It really is that good.
At heart the Outlier is a true speed hull, with a rolled bottom, and flat tail that puts speed, trim, and maneuverability at centre of the surfing experience. The surfing feel is one of effortless, speed and glide, and a board that can be controlled from the centre of the board, or the tail. An experienced longboarder with be able to jump on the Outlier and click with the feel straight away on the 7ft 6 up to the 9ft. A shortboarder looking for a first mid length will not be disappointed at all, we would suggest starting on the 7ft 6 or 8ft, just be aware that your wave count is going to go through the roof, and you won’t stop smiling for days. A tip to shortboarders, let the board do the work. No pumping allowed or required. The smoother you are the faster you surf, and the easier the board turns.
When CJ was asked what the downside of Thunderbolt Technology was he answered..."There is no downside, or I wouldn't be riding them 90% of the time. In fact the only time I ride wooden stringers is when I'm doing R&D with Eden Saul or Ryan Engle or Wayne Rich or Ian Chisholm or others".
The Outlier mid-length is constructed using 'Thunderbolt Red' a 100% hand layup Xeon Fibreglass Lamination which delivers a competition weight and flex surfboard. Thunderbolt Red uses a Fused Cell EPS Foam Blank which incorporates a Carbon Fibre Multi-Component Flex Control System which replaces a traditional wooden stringer which along with the Xeon Fibreglass lamination delivers a familiar flex which will remain for the extended lifespan of these durable boards. Thunderbolt Red uses a 6 + 4oz fibreglass deck lamination with 6 + 2oz on the bottom. The Fused Cell EPS Foam Blank is wrapped in a Core Shield PVC Shell which affords flexible protection to the EPS core.
These boards are 100% hand layups and finished to the very highest standard, and it's worth remembering that the board you buy from us is exactly the same as CJ is riding in all those mouth watering video's!
