On April 10th 2012, something exciting is happening - The day we spread awareness of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life by taking off our own. Why? Millions of children live without proper footwear, exposing them to injury and disease every day. All the staff at Tramore Surf Shop & School will be in there bare feet with the aim to help children in need...

Millions of children around the world live without proper footwear, exposing them to injury and disease every day. And in countries where children often have to walk barefoot for miles to get to school and to source clean water, life is very different to what we know.

‘One Day Without Shoes’ is a global awareness day started by TOMS with the aim of raising awareness of the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life. By asking supporters to go barefoot on 10/4/12, ‘One Day Without Shoes’ will unite people in a bid to help children across the world.

It’s so easy to take simple privileges for granted. Our thoughts on shoes only ever extend to price, fashion and comfort. We have choice in every colour, fabric, heeled or flat, laced or slip-on...the list goes on. It’s impossible to imagine a life that doesn’t involve putting shoes on in the morning. Simply walk outside barefoot without the choice to do otherwise, across all terrains and in all weather.

To help make change, we need to raise awareness. So Tramore Surf Shop and School is getting involved. On April 10th, we are encouraging staff to work barefoot between the hours of 10am and 4pm in our shop.

Past supporters have gone barefoot for months, some for only an hour. If you’re interested in getting involved see www.OneDayWithoutShoes.com. The DIY toolkit page has some great resources from Facebook banners to t-shirt stencils to help get the message across loud and clear.

We’re taking our shoes off so children don’t have to. Make sure you come in and see how we’re getting on!
